Contrastive German-Czech Phraseology: Using and Translation of Idioms in Artistic Texts, Demonstrated on the Novel by Elfiede Jelinek (“Die Klavierspielerin” – “Pianistka”)

Abstract:

In my Master´s diploma thesis there is the using of idioms in artistic texts researched. The aim of the thesis is to compare German idioms and their Czech equivalents used in the particular translation. The contrastive analysis is based on the novel “Die Klavierspielerin” written by female Austrian author Elfriede Jelinek and its Czech translation “Pianistka” translated by Jitka Jílková. This diploma thesis is divided into two sections. The theoretical section presents phraseology as a linguistic discipline, describes its characteristic features and classification of idioms. Moreover, the important part of theory introduces the modification of idioms. Finally, the theoretical part deals with the problematic field concerning the translation of idioms. The practical section consists of a corpus of idioms chosen from the book for purpose of contrastive analysis. Each idiom and his Czech equivalent used in the translation has a comment which expresses my own opinion to the way of translation.

Abstract:

Ve své magisterské diplomové práci zkoumám frazeologismy v uměleckých textech. Cílem této práce je porovnat německé idiomy s jejich českými ekvivalenty, které jsou použity v konkrétním překladu. Základem kontrastivní analýzy je román „Die Klavierspielerin“ od rakouské autorky Elfriede Jelinek a jeho český překlad „Pianistka“ přeložený Jitkou Jílkovou. Práce je rozdělená do dvou částí. Teoretická část představuje frazeologii jako lingvistickou disciplínu, popisuje její charakteristické znaky a klasifikaci frazeologismů. Mimoto je podstatná část teorie věnována modifikaci frazeologismů. V neposlední řadě se v teoretické části zabývám problematikou, která se týká překladu idiomatických frazeologismů. Praktickou část tvoří korpus frazeologismů, které byly vybrány z knihy za účelem kontrastivní analýzy. Každý frazém a jeho český ekvivalent použitý v překladu je doplněn komentářem, který vyjadřuje můj názor na překlad.
