Darker Aspects of the Internet for users - seniors

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se věnovala stinným stránkám internetu pro uživatele – seniory. Cílem práce bylo zodpovědět otázky týkající se toho, s jakými překážkami se senioři při osvojování si schopností používat internet a při jeho samotném používání potýkají a jaká rizika spojená s používáním internetu pociťují. Povaha výzkumu byla kvalitativní, byla použita metoda zakotvené teorie. Data byla získávána pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Vzorek zahrnoval osm respondentů ve věku 72-87 let, kteří byli aktivními uživateli internetu. Výsledky prezentované v empirické části práce ukázaly, že se senioři při používání internetu potýkají s obavami a frustrací, problémy souvisejícími s neefektivní výukou, fyzickými problémy, zhoršujícími se kognitivními schopnostmi, nedostupnou sociální oporou a nedostatečnou motivací. Rizika spojená s používáním internetu zahrnovala technická rizika, rizika spojená s online kriminalitou, rizika spojená s kvalitou informací a riziko nadměrného používání internetu.

Abstract:

The thesis dealt with darker aspects of the Internet for users – seniors. The target of it was to answer those questions connected with barriers which seniors have to overcome when gaining skills to use the Internet as well as using it and what risks associated with using Internet they perceive. The nature of the survey was quality, the method of grounded theory was used. The data was gained through semi-structured dialogues. The sample included eight respondents between the ages of 72 – 88 years who were active Internet users. The results presented in the empirical part of the thesis showed that seniors are usually worried or frustrated when using the Internet, face problems connected with inefficient teaching, physical problems and deteriorating cognitive skills, inaccessible social support and insufficient motivation. Risks associated with using the Internet included technical risks, risks connected with criminality, the ones associated with the quality of information and the risk of excessive use of the Internet.
