The valuation of the company as an indicator of the market value of the shares on the Prague Stock Exchange

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá problematikou ocenění společnosti. Porovnává mezi sebou hodnoty ocenění společnosti metodou účetní, metodou kapitalizace čistých zisků a metodou tržní kapitalizace. Cílem práce je ověřit předpoklad, že hodnota společnosti stanovená metodou tržní kapitalizace se významně liší od hodnoty stanovené metodou kapitalizace čistých zisků a metodou účetní, neboli že reálné hodnoty společností neodpovídají jejich tržní hodnotě. K ověření této výzkumné otázky byla použita sekundární data z účetních výkazů vybraných společností, závěrečné kurzy akcií z oficiálních statistik Burzy cenných papírů Praha a vývoj vybraných makroekonomických ukazatelů publikovaných ČSÚ. K ocenění vybranými metodami ocenění a k následné komparaci výsledků ocenění byly vybrány firmy kotované na hlavním trhu Burzy cenných papírů Praha, konkrétně Komerční banka, a.s., O2 Czech Republic a.s., ČEZ, a.s. a Philip Morris ČR a.s. Hodnoty společností byly stanovovány vždy k poslednímu dni v roce, a to v období let 2010 až 2018. K ověření významnosti rozdílů dosažených hodnot jednotlivých druhů ocenění společností byly použity vhodné statistické testy. Výsledky práce mohou být využity především analytiky nebo investory na kapitálovém trhu.

Abstract:

This study looks at the valuing of companies. It compares company value measurements using accounting, capitalisation of net profits and market capitalisation methods. The objective of the study is to test the hypothesis that the value of a company as determined by the market capitalisation method differs significantly from its value as determined by capitalisation of net profits and accounting methods, since the true value of a company is not the same as its market value. In order to investigate this research question, secondary data from the financial statements of selected companies, closing share prices in the official statistics of the Prague Stock Exchange and selected macroeconomic indicators over time as published by the Czech Statistical Office were used. The valuations using the selected valuation methods and the subsequent comparison of these values was undertaken on selected companies listed in the main Prague Stock Exchange, specifically Komerční banka, a.s., O2 Czech Republic a.s., ČEZ, a.s. and Philip Morris ČR a.s. The value of these companies was always calculated for the last day of the year over the period 2010 to 2018. Suitable statistical tests were applied to verify the significance of differences in the values calculated for the different types of company value measurements. The results of this study can be used by analysts or investors in the capital market in particular.
