The influence of labour market rigidity level on unemployment in selected EU countries in 2014 and 2015

Abstract:

Práce analyzuje vliv míry rigidity trhu práce na dlouhodobou nezaměstnanost a nezaměstnanost absolventů v České republice, Francii a Velké Británii za uplynulých 15 měsíců. Regulace se označuje za nedílnou součást trhu práce, neboť je jejím primárním cílem ochrana práv zaměstnanců a zaměstnavatelů, čímž dochází k utlumení rychlosti adaptace na tržní změny. Práce přináší komparaci zákoníků práce včetně zhodnocení dalších rigidních faktorů ovlivňujících flexibilitu trhu práce a tato fakta následně aplikuje na vývoj míry nezaměstnanosti v daných zemích. Spojení analýzy dat s teoretickými poznatky vede k závěru, že vztah mezi mírou rigidity a nezaměstnaností je negativní, tedy více strnulý pracovní trh vede k vyšší jak dlouhodobé nezaměstnanosti, tak i vyšší nezaměstnanosti mladých lidí.

Abstract:

This thesis analyzes the impact of labour market rigidity on long-term and youth unemployment in the Czech Republic, France and Great Britain over the last 15 months. A regulation becomes an integral part of the labour market, since its primary objective is to protect the rights of employees and employers, thereby it leads to dampening the speed of adaptation to market changes. The thesis provides a comparison of Labour Codes, including the assessement of other factors affecting labour market flexibility. The facts are subsequently applied to the development of unemployment rates in all three countries. Combining data analysis and theoretical research, I reached the conclusion that the relation between rigidity level and unemployment rate is negative. This means that the more rigid labour market is the higher long-term and youth unemployment causes.
