The humor of primary school age children (focusing on intellectually gifted children)

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá humor u dětí mladšího školního věku. Zaměřuje se na cílovou skupinu nadaných dětí. V rámci teoretické části jsou vymezeny základní pojmy, které pro studium humoru u dětí považuji za vhodné připomenout. Je jimi problematika nejen humoru a nadání, ale i kapitoly shrnující poznatky z vývojové psychologie. Samotná výzkumná část popisuje realizovanou studii, která zjišťuje, zda existují rozdíly v používaných stylech humoru mezi skupinou dětí s průměrnými hodnotami intelektového potenciálu a dětí nadaných. U těchto respondentů jsme taktéž hodnotili smysl pro humor a jejich výsledné hodnoty byly následně srovnávány a vyhodnoceny pomocí korelační analýzy. Všechny hodnoty jsme měřili dotazníkovými metodami. Z dostupných výsledků bylo zjištěno, že existují signifikantní rozdíly v používání stylů humoru sebeposilujícího a sebesnižujícího mezi jednotlivými skupinami respondentů. U vzorku nadaných dětí se sebesnižující styl humoru používá statisticky významně méně. Výsledky studie taktéž naznačily rostoucí tendenci zvyšujícího se smyslu pro humor u skupiny nadaných oproti skupině dětí s průměrným IQ. Vzhledem k poměrné malému výzkumnému vzorku 42 respondentů je však třeba dbát na opatrnou interpretaci výsledků výzkumu.

Abstract:

This thesis examines humour of primary school children. It is focused on intellectually gifted children. Basic terms are defined within the theoretical part, which I consider important to notice. It is not only a problematic of humour and talent, it also includes chapters concluding the knowledge from developmental psychology. The research part alone describes the implemented study, which concludes that there are existing differences in styles of humour used by average intellect potential children and the intellectually gifted children. We also rated a sense of humour within these groups and the final values were subsequently compared and evaluated using the correlation analysis. All the values were measured using questionnaire methods. From the available results, it was concluded that there are significant differences in using self-enhancing and self-defeating humour among different respondent groups. With the sample of intellectually gifted children, the self-defeating humour is statistically used in significantly lower amount. The results of the study have also indicated a growing tendency of increasing sense of humour with the intellectually gifted group of children compared to average IQ children. Due to a relatively small research sample of 42 respondents, it is necessary to keep cautious interpretation of the results in mind.
