The White Masai - The Comparison of the Book with the Film Adaptation

Abstract:

This work deals with a book by Corinne Hofmann, a Swiss author, who wrote a gripping novel The White Masai about her own experiences with the life in Afrika. The author describes her passionate marriage with a Kenyan Masai, the birth of her daughter, but also difficulties and danger that are unavoidable in Afrika. As the book became very famous, Corinne Hofmann decided to continue writing. She has written another three books till now. These books closely follow the first part and they prove the love of the author to the African Continent. The aim of this work is to introduce the life and the fateful story by Corinne Hofmann. I primarily concentrate on the literary work, specifically on the first part of this successful bestseller that was filmed as well. The intention of my work is to compare the original book The White Masai with its film adaptation which has also become very popular within a short time.

Má diplomová práce se zabývá literárním dílem švýcarské autorky Corinne Hofmannové, která sepsala, na základě svých vlastních zkušeností se životem v Africe, celý svůj příběh jako poutavé vyprávění pod názvem Bílá Masajka. Autorka líčí vášnivé manželství s keňským Masajem, zplození jejich dcery, ale také nesnáze a nebezpečí, jimž se člověk v Africe nevyhne. Jelikož se kniha stala velmi slavná, rozhodla se Corinne Hofmannová ve svém vyprávění pokračovat. Dodnes napsala ještě další tři knihy, které úzce na první díl navazují a dokazují autorčinu lásku k africkému kontinentu. Cílem mé diplomové práce je představit život a osudový příběh Corinne Hofmannové, a to i po návratu do Evropy. Především se koncentruji na literární dílo, konkrétně na první díl úspěšného bestseleru, který byl dokonce zfilmován. Záměrem mé práce je srovnání knihy s filmovým zpracováním příběhu Bílá Masajka, který se stal v krátké době velmi oblíbený.
