Cross-cultural Management: the Strength of People-oriented Culture in Dynamic Environment

Abstract: This paper describes the importance of such field as cross-cultural management (CCM) in international business environment. The work is focused on multinational corporations and their activities within a foreign culture. First of all, we tried to explore the path from the very beginning of CCM till nowadays, how it was changing and developing. The peculiarities of national culture and organizational culture are described and compared with the help of several models of dimensions and works of scholars in the field. In addition, practical part describes the situation of the multinational enterprise with one of the offices located in Prague. Analysis is made according to the interviews and surveys distributed to managers and employees of this company. Practical outcome is to develop a proposition on current shortcomings and further improvements of organizational culture in that multinational enterprise. Even though some scholars claim that strong corporate culture leads to good financial performance only in stable environment, we hypothesize that high-technology multinational company with strong culture can be successful under conditions of dynamic environment if norm content intensely emphasizes fairness and equal opportunity for people.
