Consumer credit transactions in Hungary

Abstract:

My thesis deals with one of the most important economic events of recent years, the explosive growth in the provision of loans based on foreign currency, with an examination of the attendant risks. Because of increased competition in the banking sector, the banks offered more and more risky loans. As far as possible, they passed these risks on to their clients and it was fairly easy to get credit.The growing indebtedness of the Hungarian population has reached its greatest extent among those people who took out loans based on foreign currency. First of all, I would like to introduce some general concepts relating to this topic, including the different types of credit and will also give a brief sketch of Hungary`s economic situation. I will examine where the consumption of households beyond their financial means can lead to and how this affects the risk of their portfolio and why this leads to indebtedness in foreign currency loans. Another important question is how can the banking sector deal with the economic crisis? How is the market being restructured? How does this affect the risks? Finally, I will look at how the banks and the state are helping those people who have got into trouble through currency credit. What products have they put on the market?

Abstract:

Záverečná práca sa zaoberá jednou z najvýznamnejších ekonomických udalostí posledných rokov, a to explozívnym nárastom retailových úverov v cudzej mene a súvisiacimi rizikami. Vplyvom rastúcej konkurencie v bankovom sektore boli banky ochotné ponúkať čoraz rizikovejšie úvery. Riziká v rámci možností previedli na klientov, prístup k úverom bol pomerne jednoduchý. Rastúca zadlženosť maďarského obyvateľstva bola v najvýznamnejšej miere pozorovateľná v prípade úverov v cudzej mene. Predovšetkým by som chcela predstaviť základné pojmy súvisiace s danou tematikou, všeobecné zoskupenie úverov a načrtnem aj ekonomickú situáciu Maďarska. Preskúmam, kam vedie spotreba domácností presahujúca ich finančné možnosti a ako to vplýva na riziko ich portfólia. Prečo vedie tento zámer k zadlženosti v cudzej mene? Ďalšou dôležitou otázkou je, ako je odvetvie v takomto stave schopné čeliť vzniknutej hospodárskej kríze. Aké preskupenia prebiehajú na trhu? Ako to vplýva na riziká? Nakoniec preskúmam, aké pomocné opatrenia poskytuje banka, respektíve štát klientom, ktorí sa v dôsledku úverov v cudzej mene dostali do ťažkostí. Aké výrobky uviedli na trh?
