Afghanistan through the eyes of Czech travelers in the 20th. century

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá osudy Čechů nebo osob s českými kořeny, jež před rokem 1989 navštívili Afghánistán a o své cestě sepsali cestopisnou relaci. Práce se pokouší zmapovat důvody, které cestovatele zavedly do střední Asie, a podrobně mapuje jejich pouť v tomto regionu. Práce rovněž přibližuje způsob, jakým vnímali afghánskou realitu a jakým způsobem ve svých cestopisech reflektovali kulturní a společenské poměry v zemi.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the fate of the Czech people or people with Czech backgrounds, who visited Afganistan before 1989 and they wrote a travelogue about it. This work attempts to map the reasons which led travelers to the Central Asia and detailed maps their journey in this region. The work also shows how they perceived the reality of Afghanistan and how the cultural and social conditions of the country were reflected in their travelogues.
