Syrský konflikt, který začal jako nenásilné povstání v březnu 2011, se velice rychle v reakci na násilné zásahy syrských bezpečnostních složek proti demonstrantům proměnil v ozbrojené povstání a s vnější podporou různým frakcím na obou stranách konfliktu v občanskou válku. In reaction to the violent response of the Syrian security forces against the demonstrators, the Syrian conflict which began as a peaceful uprising in March 2011 quickly transformed into an armed rebellion and with different factions on both sides of the conflict getting external support into a civil war.
