Online social networks and politically and socially motivated action

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá uživateli Facebooku, kteří jej používají ke komunikaci v souvislosti s politicky a společensky zaměřenými tématy. Cílem práce je zjistit motivace uživatelů, kteří se k takovému jednání rozhodují. Zároveň se práce zaměřuje na způsob takového jednání, jeho kontext a intervenující podmínky a zkoumá vztahy takových uživatelů s vlastním publikem. Tato práce vychází z teoretických konceptů, které se týkají tématiky nových médií a politiky a povahou vztahů na online sociálních sítích. Klíčovou částí práce je explorativní kvalitativní výzkum založený na metodě zakotvené teorie. Na základě postupů zakotvené teorie probíhala analýza dat v podobě nestandardizovaných rozhovorů s šestnácti informanty. Výsledky analýzy dat naznačily, že uživatelé v rámci svých politicky a společensky zaměřených aktivit na Facebooku jednají strategicky, aby zaujali vlastní publikum, které není s těmito uživateli vždy názorově spřízněné. Tuto část publika se pak uživatelé snaží ovlivňovat, přičemž očekávají podporu od názorově spřízněné části publika a sami tuto podporu v opačných případech poskytují.

Abstract:

The work deals with the Facebook users who use it to communicate in relation to politically and socially-oriented topics. The aim is to determine the motivation of users who decide to act in this way. At the same time, the work focuses on process of such actions, its context and intervening conditions. It also explores relationship of such users with their own audience. This work is based on theoretical concepts that relate to topics of new media and politics and nature of relationships within online social networks. A key part of this work is exploratory qualitative research based on method of grounded theory. Data analysis is based on the procedures of grounded theory whereas the data consist of nonstandardized interview with sixteen informants. The results of data analysis indicated that the users act strategically to attract their private audience. Users motivated to communicate about political topics and about society try influence users with different point of view and during this process they rely on support of their contacts with similar point of view whereas they are ready to offer the same.
