Load and positioning changes in the center of gravity following the application of Kinesio Tex Tape and non-elastic Tape.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Many studies have proved that the passive tactile stimulation of the lower limbs improves the center of gravity position and the postural control2. The skin stimulation using tape glued to the skin over the Achilles tendon increases the stability of the center of gravity3. We want to evaluate in a scientific way if the application of Kinesio Tex Tape on the plants foot can change the weight distribution and center of gravity localization. We compared two different tape: the Kinesio Tex Tape and the analastic tape. The study involves 60 subjects: 26 males, 34 females. subjects are then been divided into 3 different groups using the random method. Inclusion criteria: - ages 20 -45 years; - asymptomatic subjects; - absence of co-morbidities;- alteration of balance higher than 5% compared to physiological values in the zone of forefoot or rear foot. Exclusion criteria: - two or more distortions; - distortion in the past six months; - fractures of the lower limbs in the past two years; - vestibular problems; - neurological disorders. Pag. 8 A static exam studies the natural position and angles of the feet including rear foot/forefoot alignment and support by analyzing the pressure points of a foot in a standing position. A dynamic exam studies the foot in motion. Coordination for equilibrium maintenance under dynamic conditions is based on several mechanisms including anticipatory postural adjustments preceding voluntary movement as well as automatic responses to unexpected disturbances. The baropodometric exam is reputed for its consistency of repeatability and quality of collected quantitative data. It is the key to an accurate assessment of postural biomechanical problems in treating patients. To perform this static test: The subjects must stand on the Static place of the platform. We ask them to touch the specific alignment tool with the heel end of their foot and to assume a comfortable position. We ask the subjects to face forwards, arms by their side. They must breath in and breath out once and keep their position without moving. To perform this dynamic test: We place the subjects at the beginning of the walkway. The subjects must walk on the plate back and forth several times, trying to walk as natural as possible (their body position must face forward at all times). We apply the tape cut to fan, with the base on the hell, the strips long the metatarsal. The tape is applied without tension. We use white Kinesio Tex Tape to have fewer differences with the Anelastic tape that could influence the subjects. Our study presents some limits: first of all the limited sample, second of all the revaluation after five minutes could be too short in time for us having better benefits and stronger statistical results. In the end we have considered patients with no postural significant issues, so the chances of improvement may be of not great significance. Our statistical analysis shows that there are no improvement but some Kinesio Tex Tape results are near the statistical significance. The rigid Tape shows a worstening of some parameters, we can infer that the effects produced by the two tapes are different.

Abstract:

Le ultime ricerche scientifiche suggeriscono che stimolare il tendine di Achille con tape anelastico puň migliorare il controllo della postura1. Lo scopo di questa tesi č valutare se l?applicazione di due diversi bendaggi sulla pianta del piede puň produrre una stimolazione dei recettori che vada a influire sullo spostamento del baricentro e sulla distribuzione del carico. Lo studio č stato svolto su 60 pazienti, 26 maschi e 34 femmine di etŕ media 30 ? 5. Criteri di inclusione: pazienti dai 20 ai 45 anni di etŕ, assenza di comorbiditŕ, disequilibrio del carico superiore al 5% tra le regioni dell?avampiede e del retropiede. Criteri di esclusione: due o piů episodi distorsivi, episodio distorsivo negli ultimi sei mesi, patologie otorinolaringoiatriche, patologie cerebellari, patologie neurologiche in atto, fratture degli arti inferiori negli ultimi due anni. I pazienti sono stati divisi in tre gruppi con il metodo della randomizzazione semplice; al primo gruppo č stato applicato il Kinesio Tex Tape, al secondo gruppo il tape rigido, al terzo gruppo invece non č stato applicato nessun bendaggio in quanto trattasi del gruppo di controllo. Per l? analisi dell?appoggio plantare č stata usata una pedana baropodometrica con piattaforma di rilevazione della pressione plantare. La procedura effettuata durante i test č standard per assicurare l?acquisizione corretta dei dati, ridurre gli errori e assicurare la ripetibilitŕ dell? indagine. Sono stati effettuati due test: - l? esame statico per valutare la postura da fermo; - lo studio dinamico per l?analisi del passo, con duplice o triplice appoggio per singola analisi. Tutti i pazienti sono stati valutati prima e dopo l?applicazione del cerotto e tra una valutazione e l?altra gli č stato chiesto di camminare 5 minuti per dare il tempo al tape di stimolare la zona di applicazione. 1 Kunzler MR, Lopes LM, Ueda LS, de Britto MA, Carpes FP. Pag. 6 Si applica il cerotto ritagliato a ventaglio sulla pianta del piede con zero tensione, la base del ventaglio sul tallone e i 4 raggi del ventaglio che seguono la direzione dei metatarsi. I risultati di questo studio non mostrano dei risultati statisticamente significativi, tuttavia il Kinesio Tex Tape ha una tendenza a migliorare molti degli indici analizzati, soprattutto nell? esame dinamico. Il tape rigido invece ha una tendenza a peggiorare la distribuzione del carico. Gli studi futuri dovrebbero approfondire meglio i risultati dello studio perché l?applicazione di cerotti diversi tra di loro creano delle modificazioni diverse sulla distribuzione del carico e sulla posizione del baricentro. Da questo studio sono nate ulteriori domande che saranno spunto di ricerche future, in particolare: - quale sia la migliore tecnica di applicazione del cerotto per migliorare la postura; - per quanto tempo vada portato il cerotto e se il suo effetto duri anche dopo la rimozione; - si possa estendere questo studio anche su pazienti che presentano patologie, per migliorare la propriocezione dopo lesioni o in presenza di problemi di sensibilitŕ.
