Aesthetics, sport, art: their intersection into martial arts

Abstract:

Hlavním tématem této práce je nalezení estetických rysů v úpolových sportech a následné zkoumání možnosti zahrnout je do umění. Bakalářská práce se nejprve zaměří na téma estetizace ve sportu se zřetelem na názory různých estetiků na sport. Nejdříve zkoumá myšlenky Viléma Hohlera, který ve svých textech popisuje posun estetických hledisek do popředí zájmu ve sportovních disciplínách. Dále se soustředí na Wolfganga Welsche, jenž stejně jako Hohler přiznává sportu estetické vlastnosti. V neposlední řadě bude prezentována esej Erica C. Mullise – ten ve své stati poskytuje návod k estetickému ocenění bojových pohybů. V závěru práce se aplikují získané poznatky na zkoumané sportovní disciplíny, při zjištění estetických prvků, vyskytujících se ve sportech přesahujících do umění, se text pokusí odpovědět na vyvstávající otázky ohledně přiznání uměleckého statusu úpolovým sportům.

Abstract:

The main theme of this thesis is to find aesthetic features in martial arts and followed by consideration of possibility of including martial arts into art. The bachelor thesis firstly explores aesthetics in sport with view of some aestheticians in mind. At first the thesis focuses on ideas of Vilem Hohler. He writes about advance of aesthetic views into foreground of interest of sport. Next is Wolfgang Welsch who, on the same note as Hohler, admits aesthetic features of sport. The last essay considered is by Eric C. Mullis. He provides instructions to aesthetic evaluation of martial art moves. In the conclusion the findings are applied to sports examined. If the text finds aesthetic elements reaching into the notion of art, it will try to answer the arising questions about art status of martial arts.
