Concept of the post-socialist city - a geographical analysis

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá konceptualizací post-socialistického města. Úvodní část pojednává o teoretickém rámci post-socialismus, jež je chápán jako nadrámec studované problematiky, z něhož je koncept post-socialistického města odvozován. Pozornost je věnována uchopení a teoretickému zázemí post-socialismu a jednotlivým přístupům k jeho studiu. Post-socialistické město je pojímáno jako značně komplexní fenomén, jež musí být studován v kontextuálním prostředí a k němuž je nezbytné přistupovat z rozličných perspektiv. S transformací je zacházeno jako s hlavním organizačním principem post-socialistického města a je věnován značný prostor identifikaci a explanaci jednotlivých dimenzí tohoto procesu a jejich materiálním vyjádřením v městském prostoru. Těžištěm práce je definování podstatných atributů post-socialistického města, na nichž je založen vlastní koncept. Hlavní pilíře fenoménu post-socialistického města jsou dokumentovány využitím geografické analýzy reálného prostředí.

Abstract:

The aim of this paper is to examine the theoretical background of post-socialist city, gain own perspective on this theoretical framework and finally create a concept of it. First chapter discusses deeply the concept of post-socialism as it is taken as superordinate to the concept of post-socialist city deduced from it. It provides a summary of the main approaches to this phenomena and outlines the general theoretical framework. The processes of transition are handled as main organizational principles of post-socialist city and great attention is paid to capture them and identify their impacts on the spatial structures. The post-socialist city is studied in wide contextual framework and from diverse points of view. The paper focuses on defining substantial attributes of post-socialist city and utilize them in creating the concept. The purpose of geographical analysis of specific features of post-socialist city development is to exemplify the fundamental pillars that author´s concept of post-socialist city is based on.
