Is Inflation in the Czech Republic Stationary?

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje stacionaritu inflace v České republice. Řídí-li se centrální banka systematickým pravidlem měnové politiky a dodržuje-li Taylorův princip, vykazuje časová řada inflace stacionární charakter. Podle Taylorova principu musí centrální banka reagovat na inflační šok více než proporčně, aby zabránila snížení reálné úrokové sazby. Tímto inflační šok odezní a inflace se stabilizuje. Pokud tento princip nedodrží, stává se inflační šok persistentní, což se promítne do časové řady inflace vznikem jednotkového kořene. Tato práce se bude zabývat testováním přítomnosti jednotkového kořene v časové řadě inflace. Na základě těchto testů spolu s odhady koeficientů Taylorova pravidla lze určit, že Taylorovo pravidlo nebylo v rámci měnové politiky České národní banky dodrženo.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis analyses inflation stationarity in the Czech Republic. Provided that the central bank is carrying out monetary policy based on policy rule and obeys the Taylor principle, inflation exhibits stationary properties. According to the Taylor principle, the central bank has to react more than proportionally to the rise of the inflation rate above its target in order to prevent the real interest rate from decreasing. This allows inflation to return to its target rate as the inflationary shock dissipates. However, if the central bank does not obey the Taylor principle, it introduces a unit root in the time series of inflation. Using the unit root tests along with Taylor rule parameters estimates, we found that the monetary policy, carried out by the Czech National Bank, did not comply with the Taylor principle.
