Student curiosity in geography at primary school: review study

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu dosavadního stavu v oblasti zvědavosti žáků na základní škole v předmětu geografie. Pro analýzu byla zvolena systematická přehledová studie, která pomáhá odhalit, jak autoři publikací definují zvědavost, jak zdůrazňují, že zvědavost je v geografickém vzdělávání důležitá a jakými způsoby lze tuto zvědavost u žáků v geografii probouzet. Práce je strukturována do čtyř částí. První část se zaměřuje na teoretická východiska vycházejících z rešerše české literatury a internetových zdrojů s cílem zachytit podstatu pojmu zvědavost z různých perspektiv, s důrazem na její vztah k oboru geografie. Tato část ukazuje, že v českém prostředí je náročné pojem definovat. Následující část představuje metodu systematické přehledové studie, v rámci které jsou vybrány relevantní vědecké publikace. Tyto publikace jsou podrobeny detailní analýze a následně kategorizovány podle metod zaměřených na probouzení zvědavosti žáků. Třetí část práce prezentuje výsledky v podobě představení aspektů jednotlivých skupin zaměření, mezi které patří badatelský přístup a metoda dotazování, geografie jako nástroj přirozeného rozvoje člověka, práce v terénu a využití technologií. Poslední část je věnována diskuzi nad získanými výsledky.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on the analysis of the current state of curiosity of primary school students in the subject of geography. A systematic review study was chosen for the analysis, which helps to reveal how authors of publications define curiosity, emphasise its importance in geography education and describe how curiosity can be aroused in pupils in geography. The work is structured into four parts. The first part focuses on the theoretical background, based on the research of Czech literature and internet resources, in order to capture the essence of the concept of curiosity from different perspectives, with an emphasis on its relation to the field of geography. This section shows that the concept is difficult to define in the Czech environment. The following section presents the method of a systematic review study in which relevant scientific publications are selected. These publications are analysed in detail and then categorised according to methods aimed at awakening the curiosity of students. The third part of the thesis presents the results by introducing aspects of each focus group, namely the research approach and the method of inquiry, geography as a tool for natural human development, fieldwork and the use of technology. The last part is devoted to a discussion of the obtained results.
