The Conflict of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party and the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia against the background of interwar elections in the Ostrava region through the lens of the partisan press

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá konfliktem sociálně demokratické a komunistické strany v období první republiky. Konfliktní zóny jsou zkoumány prostřednictvím analýzy a interpretace meziválečných voleb, a to jak těch do Československého národního shromáždění, tak i komunálních. Práce se soustředí především na popsání vzájemného vztahu těchto stran a na rozdíly v jejich agitaci. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak se strany vůči sobě v tomto období vymezovaly, jaký mezi nimi byl vztah, a především jak chtěli komunisté přetáhnout dlouhodobé voličské jádro sociální demokracie do svého tábora. Práce je doplněna o didaktickou část, ve které lze nalézt metodiku pro výuku konfliktu těchto dvou stran. Výsledkem práce je kompilace sociálně demokratických a komunistických dějin do roku 1921, respektive 1929. Dále byla analyzována jednotlivá volební období optikou stranického tisku a v poslední řadě byla vytvořena metodika pro výuku této problematiky.

Abstract:

This master's thesis deals with the conflict of the social democratic and communist party during the interwar years in Czechoslovak republic. Conflict zones are researched through the analysis and interpretation of interwar elections into the Czechoslovak National Assembly, as well as municipal elections. The thesis focuses foremost on describing the relationship between the two parties and their electioneering tactics. The aim of the thesis was to determine how the two parties positioned themselves towards each other during this period, what the relationship between them was like, and mainly, how the communist planned on drawing the long-term voters of the social democratic party over into their camp. The thesis is complemented with a didactic part in which one can find the methodology for teaching about the conflict of the parties. The result of the thesis is the compilation of the social democratic and communist history until the year 1921 or 1929, respectively. Furthermore, individual electoral cycles were analysed through the lens of the partisan newspaper. Lastly, a methodology focusing on teaching this issue was created.
