Factors influencing the occupation of nestboxes by cavity-nesting species of songbirds and their nesting success in the Obora Soutok area

Abstract:

Tato práce hodnotí obsazenost ptačích budek v lužních lesích Obory Soutok v letech 2019-2021 a zaměřuje se na zjištění vlivu různých charakteristik porostu a umístění budky na hnízdění ptáků. Dále hodnotí také vliv počasí na hnízdění ptáků. Na základě dat získaných pravidelnými kontrolami 137 ptačích budek rozmístěných na třech různých lokalitách v zájmovém území, hodnotí úspěšnost hnízdění 10 zaznamenaných ptačích druhů. U tří nejhojnějších druhů, tedy u sýkory koňadry (Parus major), lejska bělokrkého (Ficedula albicollis) a sýkory modřinky (Cyanistes caeruleus), dále hodnotí vliv různých charakteristik porostu a umístění budky na průběh a úspěšnost hnízdění. Významný vliv na hnízdění dutinových druhů ptáků měl zejména typ použitých budek, výška jejich umístění a především hustota, v jaké byly v porostu rozmístěny. Nejlépe se osvědčily budky typu klasického sýkorníku a trojboké budky s různými velikostmi vletových otvorů. Vyšší obsazenost byla v budkách umístěných ve větší výšce. Vysoká hustota rozmístění budek měla podle výsledků této práce pozitivní vliv na obsazenost budek lejskem bělokrkým (Ficedula albicollis), ale zároveň se negativně projevovala na úspěšnosti hnízdění sýkory koňadry (Parus major). Dále tato práce hodnotí také vliv počasí na hnízdění sýkory koňadry (Parus major) a lejska bělokrkého (Ficedula albicollis) a prokazuje zejména vliv jarních teplot na začátek hnízdění těchto druhů. S klesajícími jarními teplotami se počátky hnízdění těchto druhů posunuly do pozdější doby. Práce následně porovnává výsledky s údaji známými z literárních zdrojů a na základě výsledků vydává stručné metodické doporučení pro efektivní podporu hmyzožravých druhů ptactva v lužních lesích v návaznosti na ochranu lesa proti hmyzím škůdcům.

Abstract:

This work evaluates the occupancy of nestboxes in the floodplain forests of Obora Soutok in the years 2019-2021 and focuses on determining the influence of various characteristics of the stand and the location of the nestbox on bird nesting. It also evaluates the effect of weather on bird nesting. Based on data obtained by regular inspections of 137 nestboxes located in three different localities in the area of interest, it evaluates the nesting success of 10 recorded bird species. In the three most abundant species, namely the Great Tit (Parus major), the Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis) and the Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus), it also evaluates the influence of different stand characteristics and the location of the nestbox on the nesting course and success. The type of nesting boxes used, the height of their location and, above all, the density in which they are distributed in the stand have a significant effect on the nesting of cavity-nesting bird species. Classic nestboxes for Great Tits and triangular nestboxes with different sizes of entrances proved to be the best. Higher occupancy was in booths located at a higher height. According to the results of this work, the high density of nesting sites had a positive effect on the occupancy of Collared Flycatchers (Ficedula albicollis), but at the same time it had a negative effect on the success of Great Tit (Parus major) nesting. It also evaluates the effect of weather on the nesting of Great Tit (Parus major) and Collared Flycatcher (Ficedula albicollis) and demonstrates in particular the effect of spring temperature on the beginning of nesting of these species. With decreasing spring temperatures, the beginnings of nesting of these species have shifted to a later time. The work then compares the results with data known from literature sources and, based on the results, issues a brief methodological recommendation for effective support of insectivorous bird species in floodplain forests in connection with forest protection against insect pests.
