Cosmopolitan distributions in freshwater microscopic crustaceans

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnuji současnému stavu znalostí o kosmopolitismu, způsobech šíření druhů a skryté diverzitě. Kosmopolitní druhy organismů jsou rozšířené na vhodných habitatech po celém světě. Nejlépe se šíří malé organismy díky snadnému pasivnímu šíření a díky jejich schopnostech přečkat nepříznivé podmínky. V poslední době se však potvrzuje, že velká část druhů pokládaných za kosmopolitní, jsou tvořeny skupinami kryptických druhů. Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo pojednat o této problematice u mikroskopických korýšů: perlooček (Cladocera), klanonožců (Copepoda) a lasturnatek (Ostracoda). V praktické části jsem se pokusila prozkoumat přítomnost „kosmopolitního druhu“ klanonožce Phyllognathopus viguieri na pokojových rostlinách v Brně ve sklenících, velkoskladech a domácnostech. Tento druh se typicky vyskytuje v listových růžicích broméliovitých rostlin. Provedeným výzkumem se mi nepodařilo potvrdit domněnku, že je k nám tento druh často zavlékán.

Abstract:

In this thesis I attempt to describe the state of current knowledge on cosmopolitan distribution, dispersal abilities of species and cryptic diversity. Cosmopolitan species are dispersed throughout suitable habitats all over the world. Small organisms have the best dispersal abilities due to passive dispersaland the capability to survive in adverse conditions. However, recently it has been repeatedly shown that some species known as “cosmopolitan“ are not truly cosmopolitan, but groups of cryptic species. The aim of this work was to summarize the recent findings in microscopic crustaceans: cladocerans, copepods and ostracods. In the practical part of the thesis, I researched the occurrence of the “cosmopolitan” copepod species Phyllognathopus viguieri on tropical houseplants in greenhouses, flower storehouse and households in Brno. This species has been frequently found in the phytotelmata of plants belonging to the Bromeliad family. I did not, however, succeed in confirming the hypothesis that the species isoften introduced to Czech Republic.
