Religious functions of the ancient Egyptian pyramids

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá významem egyptských pyramid v době Staré říše. Hlavní důraz je zde kladen na pozici panovníka, který soustřeďuje úsilí k zajištění svého posmrtného života. Práce si klade za cíl vysvětlit transformaci duše panovníka po smrti v souvislosti s mýtickým pozadím. Práce je rozdělena do třech hlavních částí. První uvádí čtenáře do historického období, které mělo vliv na materiální stránku výstavby pyramid. Druhá část mapuje kult, který se k posmrtnému životu váže a třetí se snaží o popis a výklad funkcí a procesů duchovních složek člověka a jejich transformaci po smrti.

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with the importance of Egyptian pyramids in the time of the Old Kingdom. The main importance is placed to the position of the ruler who strives for ensuring his posthumous life. The aim of the Thesis is to explain the transformation of a ruler’s soul after his death and its mythical background. The Thesis consists of 3 main parts. The First Part introduces the historical period, which had an influence on the building of pyramids. The Second Part describes the cult connected with posthumous life. The Third Part is an attempt to describe and explain the functions and processes of the spiritual parts of a human being and their transformation after death.
