Nord Stream II: political discourse in Poland

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou politického diskurzu v Polsku ve věci ruského plynovodu Nord Stream II. Předmět zkoumání představuje vnímání probíhající výstavby tohoto potrubí mezi politickými elitami v Polsku, jejich vyjadřování a prezentace projektu veřejnosti. Práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jaký je postoj Polska, jakožto člena Evropské unie, k projektu Nord Stream II a zda v zemi dochází k sekuritizaci tohoto tématu, či nikoliv. Toto polské stanovisko je v práci posouzeno z hlediska teorie sekuritizace dle kodaňské školy, metodologická část se následně opírá o kritickou diskurzivní analýzu Normana Fairclougha. Práce dochází k závěru, že v Polsku dochází k sekuritizaci tématu Nord Stream II, a to prostřednictvím vykreslování Ruska jakožto nepřítele nejen Polska, ale také ostatních států Evropy.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of political discourse in Poland in the matter of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream II. The subject of the research is the perception of the ongoing construction of this pipeline between the political elites in Poland, their expression and their presentation of the project to the public. This thesis aims to find out what is the attitude of Poland, as a member of the European Union, towards the Nord Stream II project and whether there is securitization of this topic in the country. This Polish opinion is assessed in the terms of theory of securitization according to the Copenhagen school, the methodological part is based on the critical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough. The thesis concludes that the Nord Stream II issue is securitized in Poland by portraying Russia as an enemy not only of Poland but also of other European states.
