The relationship between life goals and procrastination

Abstract:

V této práci se zabýváme vztahem životních cílů a prokrastinace u vysokoškolských studentů. Hlavním cílem je nalezení a popis vztahu mezi těmito proměnnými. V první části práce se věnujeme problematice životních cílů, prokrastinace a vztahu motivace s prokrastinačními tendencemi. Vysvětlujeme jednotlivé pojmy, předkládáme různá teoretická východiska, poukazujeme na možné vztahy mezi konstrukty. Následuje druhá část práce obsahující vlastní výzkum uskutečněný na vysokoškolských studentech (N=252). Životní cíle byly zjišťovány pomocí Aspiračního indexu (AI), zatímco prokrastinační tendence byly zaznamenávány prostřednictvím Layovy Škály prokrastinace pro studenty (PSS). V rámci výzkumného šetření se prostřednictvím Pearsonovy korelace a t - testu pro dva nezávislé výběry prokázal signifikantní negativní vztah mezi zkoumanými konstrukty. Pozornost byla dále věnována zkoumáním vztahu mezi proměnnými a pohlavími, studijními obory. Výsledky podrobněji popisujeme v druhé části, která se zabývá výzkumem.

Abstract:

In this thesis we examine a relationship between life goals and procrastination among university students. The main purpose of this thesis is to find and describe relationships between those variables. The first part of a thesis place emphasis on life goals, procrastination, a relationship between motivation and procrastination tendencies. Basic terminology and theoretical assumptions are explained, as well as the potential relationships between the constructs. The second part contains an own research realized among university students (N=252). Life goals were find out by using the Aspiration Index (AI), whereas the procrastination tendecies were recorded by using the Lay's Procrastination Scale For Student Population (PSS). Within the research, the significant negative relationship between examined constructs was proved by Pearson´s correlation and Independent Samples T-Test. The attention was placed on relationships between variables and gender, sorts of study branches. Results are described in detail in the second part focused on the research.
