Child and Adolescent Depression in the School Context

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Dětská a adolescentní deprese ve školním kontextu“ předkládá pohled na depresivní poruchu jako závažný a rozsáhlý problém současné společnosti. V případě dětí a adolescentů dlouho panovaly mýty, které tvrdily, že mladí jedinci ani nemůžou depresivní poruchou onemocnět. Cílem této práce je zjistit, jak dětská a adolescentní deprese ovlivňuje děti ve škole a jaká je připravenost škol na práci s touto problematikou. Teoretická část shrnuje příspěvky o depresi v dětství a adolescenci, a to zvláště v kontextu fungování dětí ve škole. Výzkumná část se prostřednictvím analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů zaměřených retrospektivně a na zkušenost klíčových osob (třídní učitel a školní psycholog) zaměřuje na zodpovězení otázek, zda a jakým způsobem škola ovlivňuje vznik depresivní poruchy, jaké dopady má depresivní porucha na žáka, jak depresivního žáka ve škole rozpoznat a jakými způsoby mu lze pomoci. Praktickým výstupem je poster, určený k podpoře učitelů, kteří se ve své praxi setkají s depresí u žáků.

Abstract:

The Master thesis called “Child and Adolescent Depression in the School Context” presents the view on the depressive disorder as a serious and extensive problem in today’s society. In the case of children and adolescents, myths have long prevailed, claiming that young people cannot even have a depressive disorder. The aim of the thesis is to find out how child and adolescent depression affects pupils at school and how the schools are prepared to deal with these challenges. The theoretical part summarizes the reports on depression in childhood and adolescence, especially in the context of children’s functioning at school. Through the analysis of retrospectively focused, semi-structured interviews and the experience of key respondents (class teacher and school psychologist), the research part focuses on answering the questions of whether and how the school influences the onset of depressive disorder, what effects the depressive disorder has on the pupil, how to recognize a depressed pupil at school, and in what ways he/she can be helped. The practical output is a poster designed to support teachers who encounter depression in students in their practice.
