Low interest rates and profitability of selected banking groups

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vlivem nízkých úrokových sazeb na ziskovost vybraných bankov-ních skupin. Ziskovost bude zkoumána zvlášť pro celou skupinu a pak pro jednot-livé banky v této skupině. Za pomocí regresní analýzy bude pomoci modelu s fixními efekty vyhodnocován vliv jednotlivých parametrů na ziskovost jednotli-vých bank. Pro zkoumání bylo zvoleno období 2011–2018 a obsahuje mimo níz-kých úrokových sazeb i sazby vyšší. Model pak porovnává rozdílnost všech období a jen samotných nízkých sazeb. Jako vybrané proměnné jsou voleny tříměsíční mezibankovní zápůjční úroková sazba, rozdíl na výnosech desetiletých státních dluhopisů a tříměsíční sazby, růst HDP a poměrové ukazatele, které mají značit úroveň bankovních kontrol. Jedná se o ukazatele, které vypovídají o zadluženosti, krytí dluhu, stavu aktiv, nebo využití pákového efektu při zvyšování výnosů. Práce se pak zabývá tím, jak se mění struktura ziskovosti při změnách úrokových sazeb.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the influence of low interest rates on the profitability of se-lected banking groups. Profitability will be examined separately for the whole group and then for individual banks in this group. With the help of regression anal-ysis, the influence of individual parameters on the profitability of individual banks will be evaluated with the help of a model with fixed effects. The period 2011–2018 was chosen for the research and includes, in addition to low interest rates, higher rates. The model then compares the differences of all periods and also the low rates themselves. The selected variables are the three-month interbank lend-ing interest rate, the difference in ten-year government bond yields and three-month rates, GDP growth and ratios, which are intended to indicate the level of bank controls. These are indicators that indicate indebtedness, debt coverage, the state of assets, or the use of leverage in increasing revenues. Thesis then deals with how the structure of profitability changes with changes in interest rates.
