Stigmatization of people with mental illness in an employment relationship

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou stigmatizace osob s psychickým onemocněním v pracovněprávním vztahu. Cílem bakalářské práce je zjistit individuální zkušenosti osob s psychickým onemocněním se stigmatizací v pracovněprávních vztazích a zjistit postoje zaměstnavatelů vůči zaměstnávání osob s psychickým onemocněním. Teoretická část diferencuje základní pojmy z oblasti psychických onemocnění a jejich diagnostiky. Dále charakterizuje proces stigmatizace a její dopady v kontextu zaměstnanosti. Celá problematika je zasazena do kontextu trhu práce a legislativního rámce. Práce obsahuje ukázky ze série kvalitativních rozhovorů, pomocí kterých byla mapována žitá zkušenost obou sledovaných skupin. Analýza dat získaných z interview proběhla pomocí otevřeného kódování a stanovení témat, včetně jejich dimenzí a podkategorií. V závěru práce dochází k interpretaci dat a jejich porovnání s teoretickým základem.

Abstract:

The bachelor´s thesis examines the issue of stigmatization of individuals with mental illness in an employment relationship. The objective of the thesis is to explore the individual experience of individuals with mental illness regarding stigmatization in employment relationships, as well as to investigate employers´ attitudes towards employing people with mental illness. The theoretical section differentiates between fundamental concepts related to mental illness and its diagnosis. Additionally, it characterizes the process of stigmatization and its impact within the context of employment. The whole issue is set in the context of the labour market and the legislative framework. The thesis includes excerpts from a series of qualitative interviews, which were conducted to gain insight into the lived experience of both observed groups. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using open coding and the identification of themes, including their dimensions and subcategories. In the concluding section of the thesis, the data are interpreted and compared with the theoretical foundation.
