Coping strategies, selected personality characteristics and academic success of students tending to stage-fright

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na studenty vysokých škol, kteří pociťují během zkoušení nadměrnou trému. Zabývá se vztahem a souvislostmi temperamentu, rysu úzkostnosti, copingových strategií a akademické úspěšnosti u těchto studentů. Data byla získána od 104 studentů vysokých škol a absolventů nejdéle jeden rok po ukončení studia. Pro získání dat byly použity dotazníky KSAT – klasické, sociálně-situační anxiety a trémy O. Kondáše, STAI – dotazník úzkostnosti C. D. Spielbergera, SVF 78 – copingové strategie W. Jankeho a G. Erdmannové a revizi EPQ – Eysenckova osobnostního dotazníku. V této práci bylo zjištěno, že 21% studentů trpělo vysokou úrovní trémy, existují rozdíly mezi muži a ženami v pociťované trémě a úzkostnosti; rys úzkostnosti a tréma souvisí s neuroticismem; extraverze a neuroticismus jsou moderátory vztahu copingových strategií a akademické úspěšnosti a strategie zvládání stresu souvisí s extraverzí a neuroticismem.

Abstract:

This study is focused on undergraduate students with excessive feelings of examination anxiety. This study follows up relationships and consequences of temperament, state trait, coping strategies and academic achievement by these students. The data was collected from 104 undergraduate university students and those who had up to one year after graduation. Classical, social situation anxiety and examination anxiety KSAT questionnaire from O. Kondáš, STAI, questionnaire of state/trait anxitety from C. D. Spielberger, SVF 78, questionnaire of coping strategies from W. Janke and G. Erdmann and revision of EPQ Eysenck personality questionnaire were used for these purposes. Results of this study show that: 21% of students suffer high level of stage fright, there exists a difference between men and women in trait anxiety and examination anxiety; trait anxiety and stage fright are related to neuroticism; extraversion and neuroticism moderate relationship between coping strategies and academic achievement and coping strategies are related to extraversion and neuroticism.
