Jehovah´s Witnesses as a social group

Abstract:

V úvodu se práce zaměřuje stručně na historii Náboženské společnosti Svědků Jehovových, následuje zamyšlení nad pojmy ?sekta? a ?nové náboženské hnutí?, které je důležité především pro pochopení neutrální koncepce celé práce. Připomenuty jsou základní principy a přesvědčení tohoto náboženského hnutí. Práce dále navazuje popisem sociální a organizační struktury, shromaždování, financování a setkávání při tzv. sjezdech. Zmíněn je přehled Svědků Jehovových v číslech ? především se jedná o údaje ze sčítání lidu, domů a bytů a ročenek Svědků Jehovových. Pomocí kvantitativní metody dotazníkového šetření byl proveden výzkum v sále Království v Hradci Králové. Výsledky prokázaly úzkou soudržnost členů náboženské společnosti, která se projevuje pevnými přátelskými vztahy, častou účastí na shromážděních a 100% účastí na sjezdech a především stejnými postoji v otázkách víry a přesvědčení, které bez výhrad přijímají a šíří dál mezi českou veřejnost.

Abstract:

In the thesis introduction, I briefly focus on the history of the Jehovah's Witnesses religious movement. The following part of my paper deals with the terms "cult" and "moral rearmament", both of which are particularly relevant for understanding of the whole, unbiased concept of the thesis. After that, the basic principles and beliefs of the Jehovah's Witnesses religious movement are addressed. The thesis continues with a description of their social and organizational structures, fund-raising, financing and gathering of the so-called congresses. An overview of Jehovah's Witnesses in numbers is included. These data were acquired especially from the Population Census and from the Jehovah's Witnesses yearbooks. With the use of a quantitative opinion survey method, a research was conducted at Hradec Kralove Jehovah´s Witnesses meeting point called "the Kingdom Hall". The results showed very tight relationships of the members of the religious community, which were reflected in their close friendships, high attendance at regular gatherings and at congresses (everybody participates at these) and especially in their very similar views regarding questions pertaining to faith and convictions. The members do not object to accepted opinions on these matters, but accept them fully and spread them further among Czech public.
