The present thesis aims to examine the suicide phenomenon through female heroines in selected 19th-century novels. The thesis analyzes and compares the novels The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, and Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert.
