Dynamics of Abbreviation in Current Czech

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá dynamikou slovotvorného způsobu zkracování v současné češtině a popisem zkratek jako specifických jazykových znaků. Přihlíží se k aktuálním jazykovým tendencím a k novým typům zkratek v jazyce. Analyzována je gramatická a stylistická stránka starších i novějších abreviatur, přičemž podstatná část popisu je věnována abreviaturám grafickým a iniciálovým, které tvoří centrální část systému abreviačních forem. Do monografie jsou zahrnuty také výsledky pedagogického výzkumu ověřujícího znalost jednotlivých druhů zkratek u žáků 2. stupně základních škol a středních škol.

Abstract:

The dissertation deals with the abbreviation in contemporary Czech, its dynamics in the word-formation process and with the description of abbreviations as specific language signs. Contemporary language tendencies and new formations in the field of abbreviation are taken into account. The analysis is focused on the grammatical and stylistic aspects of the older and newer abbreviations, while a substantial part of the description - on the graphical and initial abbreviations, which create a central part of the system of abbreviation formations. The monograph also includes the results of a pedagogical research verifying the knowledge of specific abbreviation formations among students of elementary and secondary schools.
