The construction of the Baghdad railway in the contemporary Czech press

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje stavbě bagdádské dráhy od jejího počátku na přelomu devatenáctého a dvacátého století po její dokončení r. 1940 a její reflexi v soudobém českém tisku. Zmíněny jsou mezinárodní okolnosti přípravy, stavby i zprovoznění jednotlivých úseků bagdádské dráhy v míře, ve které byly reflektovány v tehdejším česky psaném tisku. Cílem práce je zmapování článků o bagdádské dráze v českém tisku do r. 1940, kdy byla bagdádská dráha dostavěna, jejich analýza a zasazení do širšího historického kontextu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the construction of the Baghdad Railway from its beginning at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century to its completion in 1940 and its reflection in the contemporary Czech press. There are mentioned the international circumstances of the preparation, construction, and openings of sections of the railway to the extent that they were reflected in the Czech press of that time. The aim of the thesis is to map the articles about the Baghdad railway in the contemporary Czech press by the year of 1940 when the construction of the railway was completed, their analysis and placement into the wider historical context.
