Assessment of the effect of the addition of polymer particles on the properties of particleboards

Abstract:

Zvyšující se spotřeba dřeva je důvodem, proč vyvíjet nové a inovativní materiály. Účelem práce tedy bylo vyrobit takový materiál na bázi dřeva, který bude mít ideální fyzikální a mechanické vlastnosti. Právě využití polymerních částic ve třískové desce se zdálo být dobrým nápadem, jelikož množství plastových odpadů ve světě roste a je nezbytné hledat další nové možnosti recyklace tohoto materiálu. Diplomová práce je zaměřena na výrobu třískových desek s přídavkem polymerních částic (PET částic). Při použití těchto PET částic v desce by nemělo dojít k výraznému zhoršení mechanických vlastností finálního výrobku. Cílem bylo zjistit hodnoty fyzikálních a mechanických vlastností jednotlivých druhů desek a statisticky je vyhodnotit. Zároveň také posoudit případné použití těchto desek v praxi. PET částice byly ve formě vloček, které vznikly při recyklaci. PET částice byly pomocí sítového třídiče rozděleny do několika frakcí. Zároveň byla polovina těchto frakcí oplazmována pomocí bezhřídelového šroubovitého plazmového dopravníku DBD (dielektrický bariérový výboj). Poté proběhlo v nanášečce smíchání PET částic (15 % z hmotnosti desky), třísek a lepidla. Dále došlo k navrstvení desek, vylisování a nařezaní vzorků, z kterých byly určeny fyzikální a mechanické vlastnosti. Na závěr byly tyto vlastnosti statisticky posouzeny. Vzorky byly testovány za účelem zjistit hodnoty vlhkosti, hustoty, hustotního profilu, pevnosti v ohybu (MOR – modulus of rupture) a modulu pružnosti v ohybu (MOE – modulus of elasticity). Klíčovou vlastností je pevnost v ohybu. V práci se podařilo prokázat, že přidáním PET částic do třískové desky v porovnání s DTD se v podstatě hodnoty statisticky významně nelišily, kromě desek s ručně nařezanými PET částicemi (20C+ a 10C+). Z výsledků lze tedy sdělit, že hodnoty meze pevnosti v ohybu u DTD se statisticky nelišily v porovnání s deskami s přidáním 15 % PET částic. Některé druhy frakcí měly statisticky nevýznamný rozdíl hodnot jak u meze pevnosti v ohybu v porovnání s DTD 1 a 2, tak u modulu pružnosti v porovnání s DTD 1 a 2, jednalo se o 8 frakcí (viz Výsledky). V práci se nepodařilo prokázat, že oplazmování částic vede k zvýšení meze pevnosti oproti částicím neoplazmovaným. Také se neprokázal vliv odstranění papíru z PET recyklátu na zvýšení pevnosti v ohybu či modulu pružnosti.

Abstract:

Increasing wood consumption is the reason why we develop new and innovative materials. The purpose of the work was to produce such a wood-based material that will have additional physical and mechanical properties. Just using the polymer particles in the chipboard seems to be a good idea that the amount of plastic waste in the world is growing and you need to look for other new ways to recycle this material. The diploma thesis is therefore focused on the production of particleboards with the addition of polymer particles (PET particles). When using these PET particles in the board by significantly deteriorating the mechanical properties of the final product. The aim was to determine the values of physical and mechanical properties of individual types of boards and to evaluate them statistically. At the same time also assess the possible use of these boards in practice. PET particles were formed into flakes that formed during recycling. PET particles were used using sieve classes divided into several fractions. At the same time, half of these fractions were plasmidized using a shaftless helical plasma conveyor DBD (dielectric barrier discharge). Then PET particles (15 % by weight of boards), chips and glue were mixed in the applicator. Furthermore, for layering boards, pressing and cutting samples, from which the physical and mechanical properties were determined. Finally, these properties were statistically assessed. Testing of the samples was performed in order to determine the value of moisture, density, density profile, flexural strength (MOR – modulus of rupture) and flexural modulus (MOE - modulus of elasticity). The key property is flexural strength. In this work to prove that you add the PET part to the chipboard in comparison with DTD, the values did not differ statistically significantly, in addition, with hand-cut PET particles (20C + and 10C +). From the results, it can be studied that the values of the flexural strength of DTD did not differ statistically in comparison with plates with the addition of 15% PET particles. Some types of fractions statistically insignificant difference of values both for the limit of flexural strength in comparison with DTD 1 and 2 and for the modulus of elasticity in comparison with DTD 1 and 2, these are 8 fractions (see Results). In this work it was not possible to prove that the plasmination of particles leads to an increase in the modulus of rupture compared to unplasminated particles. Also take the unproven effect of removing paper from PET recycling on increasing modulus of rupture or modulus of elasticity.
