Fears by fourth grade students of the vocational high school

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na strachy u žáků střední školy. V první kapitole teoretické části jsou vymezeny pojmy strach a úzkost, jejich vznik, popis fyziologie strachu, jeho projevy a pojetí strachu a úzkosti z pohledu psychologie a různých psychologických škol. Následně jsou popsány emoce a city, které žáci prožívají ve škole a s tím spojené strachy v prostředí školy. V závěru teoretické části je roze-psáno, jak pomoci adolescentům překonávat úzkostné stavy a strach. Praktickou část tvořilo dotazníkové šetření provedené na střední škole v Třebíči. Cílem bylo zjistit, z čeho mají žáci nejčastěji strach a v jaké míře ho poci-ťují. Nástrojem sběru dat byl dotazník, vytvořený pro účely průzkumu. Respondenty byli žáci 4. ročníků vybrané střední školy. Získaná data budou znázorněna prostřednictvím tabulek a grafů.Průzkum ukázal, že mezi nejčastější strachy patřil strach z maturitní zkouš-ky, následující byl strach z vážné nehody v rodině, pak strach, že někdo v rodině onemocní, dále strach, že někdo v rodině umře a strach ze zkoušení před tabulí. Nejčastější projevy strachu byly následující: rychle bušící srdce, zrychlený tep a dýchání, třes v rukách, sevřený žaludek a návaly pocení. Způsoby, jakými ado-lescenti překonávají strach, byly takové, že se nejčastěji svěří svým kamarádům, snaží se relaxovat, svěří se partnerovi/partnerce, svěří se svým rodičům či požijí alkohol.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of fearexperienced by high school stu-dents. The first chapter of the theoretical part defines the concepts of fear and anxiety, describes their origin, the physiology of fear, its manifestations, or the ways fear and anxiety are approached by psychology and different schools of psychological thought. Emotions and feelings experienced by students at school, and related fears felt in the school environment are subsequently described. The conclusion of the theoretical part lays out ways to help adolescents overcome their state of anxiety and fear.The practical part consists of a questionnaire survey conducted at a high school in the town of Třebíč. The goal was to learn what its students were most often afraid of and to what degree they experienced this fear. A questionnaire drawn up for the purposes of this survey served as the research tool and fourth grade students of the selected high school as the respondents. The obtained data is shown by means of charts and diagrams.The survey has shown that the most frequent type of fear was that of the school-leaving exams. This was followed by the fear of a serious accident striking a family member; an illness in the family; death in the family; and finally of being called on in class. The following manifestations of fear were the most frequent: rapid heartbeat, fast heart rate and breathing, trembling hands, knotted stomach, and sudden sweating. The adolescents most often tried to overcome their fear by confiding in their friends, relaxing, confiding into their partner/parents, or by imbibing alcohol.
