Methods of nonanalytical computations in Euclidean geometry

Abstract:

Úkolem disertační práce bylo zmapovat oblast obtížnějších neanalytických výpočtových úloh v eukleidovské geometrii, tedy projít dostupné tuzemské i zahraniční učebnice, sbírky úloh a ročenky matematických soutěží, vybrat reprezentativní úlohy, vhodně roztřídit, uspořádat a vyložit je v metodicky zaměřeném textu. První kapitola práce přehledně shrnuje nejdůležitější poznatky školské planimetrie a trigonometrie potřebné pro řešení geometrických výpočtových úloh. Vybrané poučné důkazy, jejichž postupy jsou užitečné při řešení úloh, jsou vypracovány na konci kapitoly. Ve stěžejní druhé kapitole jsou metodicky sdružovány úlohy řešené jedním prostředkem bez většího provázání s dalšími tématy. Smyslem je umožnit osvojování umění geometrických výpočtů po etapách podle jednotlivých metod, přitom však nabídnout zajímavé úlohy s často netriviálními výsledky. O náplni kapitoly více vypovídají názvy podkapitol Trojúhelníková nerovnost, Délky tečen ke kružnici, Obsah trojúhelníku, Výpočty úhlů v trojúhelníku, Výpočty úhlů v kružnici, Pythagorova věta, Sinová věta, Kosinová věta. Třetí kapitola obsahuje další zajímavá tvrzení a vztahy mezi základními prvky trojúhelníků a čtyřúhelníků, které nejsou běžně zařazovány do středoškolských učebnic. Tato část práce může posloužit jako přehled méně známých poznatků i jako zdroj na ně navazujících řešených úloh. Řešení všech zařazených úloh jsou vyložena podrobně a téměř všechna opatřena obrázky. Úlohy byly vybrány z 16 knih a sbírek úloh zaměřených na geometrii, 28 polytématických sbírek úloh, 12 článků v časopisech a sbornících a společně se školními učebnicemi, matematickými soutěžemi a internetovými zdroji má seznam literatury 75 položek. Kromě převzatých úloh je v práci uvedeno i několik vlastních námětů.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to make a detailed survey of the field of slightly difficult non-analytical computational problems in Euclidean geometry. It goes through available local and foreign textbooks, collections of problems, and anthologies of mathematical contests. Representative problems are picked up, classified, organized, and interpreted in a methodically oriented text. The first chapter summarizes the most important pieces of knowledge of the school plane geometry and trigonometry needed for solving geometric computational problems. It also discusses selected instructive proofs useful in problem solving. The second chapter presents the main contribution of the thesis. It methodically sorts tasks handled by a single technique with small or no connection to other themes. The purpose is to enable learning the art of geometric computations in stages according to each discussed method, while offering interesting tasks mostly with nontrivial results. The chapter content is represented by titles of individual sections: A Triangle Inequality, Lengths of Tangents to a Circle, Area of a Triangle, Angles in a Triangle, Angles in a Circle, Pythagorean Theorem, Law of Sines, and Law of Cosines. The third chapter contains another interesting statements and relationships between elements of a triangle and a quadrangle which are usually not included in school textbooks. This part can serve both as an overview of less known facts and as the source of related solved problems. Solutions of all the problems included in the thesis are worked out in detail and almost all of them introduce the reader to the topic with clear illustrations. Presented problems were chosen from 16 books and problem collections focused on geometry, 28 multi-thematic problem collections, and 12 articles in journals and conference proceedings which along with textbooks, mathematical competitions, and Internet resources make the list of 75 items in bibliography. In addition to adopted problems, the thesis offers some original tasks as well.
