Modern Art as Provocation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Moderní umění jako provokace“ pojednává o problematice související se změnou uměleckých hodnot a celkové funkce umění v minulém století. Představuje umělecké směry, osobnosti a tvůrčí tendence, které svou činností narušily tradiční chápání smyslu umění a ovlivnily novou podobu celé umělecké scény. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována roli morálky v kontroverzních uměleckých vyjádřeních a oproštění producentů umění od etických společenských norem, které bezpochyby vedlo k provokaci. Cílem práce je zodpovězení otázky, zda přechod od tradičních estetických hodnot uměleckého díla k jeho provokující obsahové složce (bez dodržování etických morálních zásad) nevedl k selhání moderního umění právě jako umění.

Abstract:

Diploma thesis „Modern Art as Provocation” deals with questions that are related to the change of some art values and to the whole function of art in the last century. Diploma thesis is also an introduction of artistic trends, persons and creative tendencies that, by their activities, disrupted the traditional conception of art and influenced the new shape of art. Special attention is devoted to the role of morality in controversial artistic provocations. The aim of my thesis is to answer the question whether the transition from traditional aesthetic values of artworks to its provoking contentual element (without adhering to ethic moral principles) didn’t lead to a failure of modern art as art in general.
