Advanced Dependency Alignment for a Build System

Abstract:

Táto práca bola vytvorená vďaka snahe spoločnosti Red Hat vylepšiť existujúce procesy v internom kompilačnom systéme Project Newcastle. Konkrétna časť procesu, na ktorú sa práca sústredí, je proces nazývaný zarovnávanie závislostí. Tento proces automatizuje úpravy verzií závislostí v súboroch opisujúcich stavbu projektu ako napríklad pom.xml pri nástroji Maven alebo build.gradle pri nástroji Gradle. Zarovnávanie závislostí má svoje nedostatky, čo spôsobuje, že užívatelia sú často nútený vykonávať manuálne úpravy. Cieľom tejto práce bolo navrhnúť vylepšenie procesu zarovnávania závislostí a dodať užívateľom viacej možností na prispôsobovanie zarovnávania. Ďalej, práca podrobne opisuje návrh, následnú implementáciu a testovanie tohto vylepšenia.

Abstract:

This thesis was created as an effort from the company Red Hat to improve existing processes in an internal build system Project Newcastle. The specific part of the process that the thesis focuses on is dependency alignment, which automates modifying versions of dependencies in build files of build tools such as pom.xml for Maven or build.gradle for Gradle. Dependency alignment has its insufficiencies, and more often than not, users have to manually adjust the process to counter them. The thesis proposes an improvement to dependency alignment by giving users more possibilities to control the alignment. Furthermore, the thesis details the design, subsequent implementation and testing of the improvement.
