Abstract:

Ničení půdy má velký dopad na živobytí, chudobu a potravinovou bezpečnost lidí, a to přímo i nepřímo. Ghanská čtvrť Denkyembour je právem považována za největšího producenta diamantů v zemi a zároveň je velkým producentem palem. Nicméně, těžba v tomto okrese převažuje nad ornou půdou, což ovlivňuje výši příjmu občanů. Cílem této studie je prozkoumat a rozhodnout, jak může zemědělství souviset s obecnými pokyny pro degradaci půdy ve výše uvedeném okrese. Jako primární metoda způsobu sběru dat, byl pro 299 respondentů ve vybraných komunitách okresu poskytnut dotazník. Bylo zjištěno, že se většina těchto obyvatel spoléhá na svou půdu jako zdroj obživy, například zemědělství. Většina z těchto zemědělců ztrácí velké množství zemědělské půdy kvůli nelegální těžbě, a to dramaticky snižuje jejich zdroj příjmů. Dále bylo zjištěno, že obyvatelé nepřijali žádná jednotlivá opatření, vyjma těch opatření, která byla zavedena jejich komunitou, okresem a zemí. Mezi tato opatření patří odvodnění komunit s cílem omezení eroze půdy, vládní pracovní skupina proti nelegální těžbě jako Operace Vanguard, okresní pracovní skupina proti nelegálním stavbám a pravidelné školení zemědělců o zemědělských postupech. Studie doporučuje, aby vláda zřídila konkrétní bezpečnostní jednotku, která bude výhradně odpovědná za činnost související s degradací půdy, jako je mimo jiné nelegální těžba, odlesňování a znečištění vody. Zemědělci by měli být vyškoleni v tom, jak se zapojit do udržitelných zemědělských postupů, kde mohou zvýšit svou produkci úrody. Vzdělávání o degradaci životního prostředí by mělo být prvořadé, a to i pro vládu spolu s nezbytnými ministerstvy a pokyny.

Abstract:

There is high effect of land destruction on livelihoods, poverty and food security of people, directly and indirectly. The Denkyembuor district of Ghana is regarded as credence for the country's largest diamond production and has a higher rank in palm production. Nonetheless, mining in this district has taken over the arable land of the district and this has affected the income level of the citizenry. It is the aim of this study to examine and decide how agriculture can be related to general guidance on land degradation in the above-mentioned district. Using primary method of data collection, the researcher administered questionnaire to 299 respondents in selected communities in the district. The study found that most residents rely on the land directly for subsistence, i.e., for agriculture. Most of these farmers are losing acres of agricultural lands to illegal mining and have dramatic cuts in their source of revenue. It further found that the residents have not adopted any individual measures except the measures that have been put in place by their communities, district and the country. These measures include community drainages to curb soil erosion, government task force against illegal mining termed as Operation Vanguard, district taskforce against illegal constructions and periodic training of farmers on farming practices. The study recommends that the government establish a specific security unit that will solely be responsible for land degradation acts such as illegal mining, deforestation, water pollution, amongst others. Farmers should be trained on how to engage in sustainable agricultural practices where they can boost their yield per acre. Education on environmental degradation should be paramount and therefore, the government, together with necessary ministries and instructions.
