From Data Visualization to Data Art

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou okrajových forem vizualizace informací, které vznikají jako následek pronikání umělců a designérů do dosud výhradně akademické oblasti. Kromě obecného úvodu do tradiční datové vizualizace poskytuje práce vhled do nejvýraznějších okrajových forem, identifikuje jejich problematické aspekty s ohledem na tradiční chápání pole infovis a podává přehled dosud publikovaných konceptů a modelů, které se tento trend snaží zachytit a porozumět mu.

Abstract:

This thesis primarily focuses on marginal forms of information visualization that have developed as a consequence of artists and designers delving into a field that has so far been regarded as purely academic. In addition to the general introduction of traditional data visualization, this work provides insight into the most distinctive marginal forms and identifies their problematic aspects from the point of view of the conventional notion of infovis. This thesis also offers an embracive overview of existing concepts and models that seek to capture and comprehend this trend.
