Tourism Terminology in EU Legislation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Terminologie cestovního ruchu v legislativě Evropské unie se věnuje problematice terminologie – vysvětluje, co je terminologie: a) souhrn odborných výrazů daného oboru, někdy také názvosloví nebo b) vědní disciplína, která zkoumá vztah mezi termínem a konceptem, tj. abstraktním pojmem označovaného předmětu. Dále zkoumá potřebu nových termínů, jejich tvorbu, existenci, standardizaci, změny, použití, překlad a další. Práce ve své první části nastiňuje základní pojmy a problematiku oboru terminologie, její důležitost, vliv na tvorbu norem, její stručnou historii i současnost, seznamuje s nejznámějšími organizacemi, které se terminologií či normami zabývají; představuje terminologický management, který stále více nabývá na důležitosti především ve velkých nadnárodních společnostech a postoj Evropské unie k terminologii v jejím mnohajazykovém prostředí, a vztah mezi terminologií a překladem. Praktická část se věnuje analýze překladu evropských dokumentů a poukazuje na jeho nejčastější nedostatky, ale především popisuje postup vytváření slovníku termínů cestovních ruchu, které byly použity v dokumentech Evropské unie, jež jsou dostupné na Eur-lexu – portálu evropského práva. Slovník je zařazen na konci diplomové práce a obsahuje anglický a český termín, zdroj (číslo dokumentu) a definici.

Abstract:

My thesis Tourism Terminology in EU Legislation is devoted to terminology – it explains what terminology is, i.e. a set of terms belonging to a particular subject field, or an independent discipline, which studies the relationship between a term and a concept, i.e. a mental representation of an object; the processes of the need for terms, their creation, existence, changes, purpose, documentation, etc. The thesis delineates the basic terms of terminology and its problems, importance, influence on norms, its brief history and present situation; it introduces most important organizations in this field, and terminology management that has become important especially for big international companies. Further, it presents how terminology is dealt with in the multilingual EU and in translation in general. The practical part is devoted to translation analysis of the European documents but mainly, it is devoted to the creation process of the glossary of tourism terms, which were found in the EU legal documents available on Eur-lex – the website of the European law. The glossary can be found at the very end of this thesis, and contains English and Czech term equivalents, source (number of the document) and definitions.
