Secondary Character in Pierre Corneille's Drama

Abstract:

This bachelor’s diploma thesis deals with the secondary characters in the work of French playwright Pierre Corneille. The first part of the study is focused on the historical context, on the approach of the baroque period and the classicism, and on the genres of tragedy and comedy. The following part presents the biography of Pierre Corneille and the characteristics of his work. The central part of the study is devoted to the analysis of four plays written by Pierre Corneille. The aim is to determine the role of the secondary character in relation to the protagonist and to emphasize the function of the secondary character in the story. These findings will be compared from the point of view of the tragedy and the comedy.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vedlejšími postavami v díle francouzského dramatika Pierra Corneille. Součástí práce je stručné přiblížení historického kontextu doby, povahy uměleckých směrů baroka a klasicismu a žánrů tragédie a komedie. Následuje životopis Pierra Corneille a charakteristika jeho tvorby. Hlavní část práce tvoří analýzy čtyř divadelních her Pierra Corneille. Cílem práce je určit roli vedlejší postavy ve vztahu k postavě hlavní a zdůraznit funkci vedlejší postavy v ději. Tyto poznatky budeme porovnávat z hlediska tragédie a komedie.
