Changes in levels of hope, life satisfaction and expectations for future over the course of five years

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá proměnami a vztahy prožívané naděje, dispoziční naděje, spokojenosti a optimistického očekávání v průběhu pěti let. Dále se zabývá vztahem demografických údajů (pohlaví, věk, vzdělání a rodinný stav) a zjišťovaných proměnných. V neposlední řadě je cílem této práce zjistit, které zdroje, předměty a aktivity jsou v souvislosti s nadějí v průběhu pěti let uváděny nejčastěji. Data pro náš výzkum byla získávána v rámci mezinárodního projektu Hope Barometer v průběhu let 2014 a 2018. Do výzkumu se celkem zapojilo 1657 respondentů. Pro analýzu proměnných byla použita Škála dispoziční naděje (ADHS), Škála prožívané naděje (PHS), sociodemografický dotazník a otázky zjišťující spokojenost a optimismus ohledně různých oblastí v průběhu let. Dále byli respondenti dotazováni na jejich nejsilnější zdroje, předměty a aktivity spojené s nadějí. Náš výzkum potvrdil kladný vztah mezi sledovanými proměnnými v průběhu pěti let. Z demografických proměnných byla zjištěna souvislost mezi mírou prožívané naděje a rodinným stavem respondentů. Bylo zjištěno, že svobodní jedinci dosahovali nižší průměrné míry naděje než osoby v partnerství či manželství. V rámci spokojenosti bylo zjištěno, že v průběhu pěti let postupně klesá spokojenost respondentů s klimatem a životním prostředím. Optimistické očekávání pro následující rok vždy dosahovalo většího skóru než spokojenost v daném roce. Jako nejsilnější zdroj naděje označovali respondenti sami sebe. Respondenti tedy vnímají naději jako zodpovědnost každého vůči sobě sama. Nejčastější aktivitou spojenou s nadějí byla analýza okolností a přemýšlení nad danou situací. Také bylo zjištěno, že lidé nejvíce doufají ve šťastné partnerství, manželství, rodinu a vlastní zdraví. Limity výzkumné práce a bližší interpretace výsledků jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Abstract:

This thesis studies changes of and relationships between the perceived hope, dispositional hope, satisfaction and optimistic expectation over five-year period. Furthermore, the thesis studies the relationship between the demographic data (gender, age, education, family status) and the observed variables. Last but not least, the goal of the thesis is to find out which sources, objects and activities are most often mentioned in connection with hope over the five-year period. The data for our research were gained as part of international project Hope Barometer between the years 2014 and 2018. The data were collected based on 1 657 respondents. Dispositional Hope Scale (ADHS) and Perceived Hope Scale (PHS), sociodemographic questionnaire and questions on satisfaction and optimism about various areas during the years were used for the analysis of the variables. The respondents were further asked about the sources, objects and activities they strongly connect with hope. Our research confirmed the positive relationship between the followed variables over the five-year period. Based on the demographic variables we found out a connection between the degree of perceived hope and the family status of the respondents. It was found out that the single individuals were on average less hopeful than persons in relationship or marriage. It was also found out that the respondents’ satisfaction with the condition of climate and the environment was worsening over the observed five-year period. Score of the optimistic expectations for the following year was always higher than score of the satisfaction with the given year. The respondents stated themselves as the strongest source of hope. In other words, the respondents understand hope as a responsibility of an individual towards her/himself. The activity most often connected with hope was an analysis of the circumstances and contemplation over the given situation. It was also discovered that those people most often hope for happy partnership, marriage, family and own health. The limits of the thesis and further interpretation of the research results are stated in the conclusion of this thesis.
