Evolution of lower limb function and manipulation abilities in higher primates with respect to the origin of bipedalism in archaic hominins and its further evolution

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá evolucí funkce a manipulačních schopností dolní končetiny vzhledem k vývoji nejdříve habituální a později výkonné bipedie. Cílem této práce je přispět k řešení problematiky vzniku výkonné bipedie u archaických australopitéků, přesněji zda vzniku lokomoce raných hominů mohla předcházet starobylá bipedie typu archaických homininů. Dále bude následovat shrnutí některých teorií vzniku bipedie s důrazem na teorii kterou vypracoval J.H. Prost.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the evolution of lower limb function and manipulative abilities in relation to the development of first habitual and later executive bipedalism. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to solving the problem of the emergence of executive bipedalism in archaic australopithecines, and more specifically whether the emergence of locomotion in early hominins could have been preceded by an ancient archaic hominin-type bipedalism. This will be followed by a summary of some theories of the origin of bipedalism, with emphasis on the theory developed by J.H. Prost.
