Typology of slags from archaeological findings and methodology of their determination

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá typologií strusek a jejich určováním. Vychází z kompletace poznatků z odborných článků, zabývá se analýzou zkoumaných vzorků a v neposlední řadě vytvořením určovacího klíče na základě vybrané metody. Za účelem vytvoření jednoduchého rozlišovacího klíče bylo nutné na základě dostupné literatury a provedených analýz nejprve zkompletovat a doplnit stávající typologii archeologických strusek. Výsledkem je rozdělení archeologických strusek na dvě hlavní skupiny, kterými jsou železářské a polymetalické strusky, které se dále dělí na specifické typy. Výsledkem analýz a určovacího klíče bylo určení zkoumaných vzorků strusek. V případě Opavských strusek ze dvou lokalit byly určeny strusky původem z hamrů, kovářské, železářské, z výroby bronzu, polymetalická struska a struska z hutí hutnících bahenní rudy. Zkoumané strusky původem z Kutné Hory byly určeny jako strusky z kovářské dílny, železářské a polymetalické.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the typology of slags and their determination. It is based on the completion of knowledge from scientific articles, deals with the analysis of the examined samples and, last but not least, the creation of an identification key based on the selected method. In order to create a simple identification key, it was necessary to first compile and supplement the existing typology of archaeological slags on the basis of the available literature and performed analyzes. The result is the division of archaeological slags into two main groups, which are iron and polymetallic slags, which are further divided into specific types. The result of the analyzes and the identification key was the determination of the examined slag samples. In the case of Opava slags from two localities, slags originating from iron mills, blacksmith's, ironworks, slags from bronze production, polymetallic slag and slag from mud - ore compaction mills were identified. The investigated slags originating from Kutná Hora were determined as slags from a blacksmith's workshop, iron and polymetallic.
