Comparison of the education of children with Down syndrome in the Czech republic and in Spain

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce porovnává možnosti vzdělávání dětí s Downovým syndromem v České republice a ve Španělsku. V první části popisuje, co to je Downův syndrom, okolnosti, které ho ovlivňují, a často doprovázené nemoci. Poté se zaměřuje na termín mentální retardace, která je vždy spojena s Downovým syndromem. Dalším bodem jsou specifikace při vývoji a výchově těchto dětí. Dále nám tato práce představuje teoretické možnosti v oblasti vzdělávání, které mají děti s Downovým syndromem na výběr. Tuto oblast pak prošetří výzkum, konkrétně čtyři případové studie, které ukazují, jak již zmíněné teoretické možnosti fungují v praxi. V závěru se rozebírají a porovnávají fakta, ke kterým se dospělo díky případovým studiím. Práce ukazuje jaké prvky výchovy a vzdělání se shodují a jaké jsou naopak rozdílné a vysvětluje příčiny těchto rozdílů.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis compares the educational opportunities of children with Down syndrome in the Czech Republic and in Spain. The first part describes what the Down syndrome is, circumstances that affect it, and diseases by which it might be accompanied. Furthermore, it is focused on the term of mental retardation, which is always associated with Down syndrome. In another part there are considered the specifications for the development and education of these children. Moreover, the thesis presents theoretical possibilities in the field of education of children with Down syndrome. This area is further examined in the research, namely four case studies that show how the aforementioned theoretical options work in practice. In conclusion, there are discussed and compared the facts, which were made through the case studies. The bachelor thesis shows which of the educational elements are the same and which are by contrast different, and explains the cause of those distinctions.
