Econometric Models Nonlinear in the Parameters

Abstract:

The central attention of this diploma work is devoted to the general exposition of the non-linear specifications in the econometric models. This is analyzed, firstly, from the point of view of theoretical questions related to the properties of the nonlinear econometric estimation, secondly, in relation to the manners and difficulties connected with the computations of its parameters with the help of suitable numerical iterative techniques. Four frequently used model specifications, non-linear in the parameters, (indirect TRANSLOG, indirect ADDILOG, linear expenditure system and quadratic expenditure system) are taken as the illustrative examples of the non-linear models applied in the framework of the consumer demand. Both their indirect utility functions, and their Marshallian demand functions are then undergone as to the examination of their theoretical properties. 8-equations LES-expenditure model based on the Czech quarterly consumption and price data is finally used as an illustrative example of the possible problems connected with computations of the non-linear models.

Abstract:

Hlavným predmetom diplomovej práce je problematika nelineárnych špecifikácií v ekonometrických modeloch. Tá je v práci analyzovaná tak vo vzťahu k teoretickým otázkam súvisiacim s vlastnosťami metód ekonometrického odhadu, ako aj vo vzťahu k spôsobom a náročnosti riešení kvantifikácie týchto odhadov pomocou numerických iteračných metód. Štyri často používané modelové špecifikácie nelineárne v parametroch (nepriamy TRANSLOG, nepriamy ADDILOG, lineárny výdajový systém a kvadratický výdajový systém) sú vzaté ako ilustračné príklady nelineárnych modelov, aplikovaných v teórii spotrebiteľského dopytu. Ich nepriame úžitkové funkcie a Marshallovské dopytové funkcie sú následne podrobené vyšetreniu teoretických vlastností. 8-rovnicový LES-výdajový model založený na českých čtvrtletních cenových a spotřebních datech je použitý na ilustráciu problematiky výpočtu nelineárnych modelov.
