Antic Ideal of Male Beauty in Film Adaptations

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce Antický ideál mužské krásy ve filmových adaptacích se zabývá srovnáním ideálu mužské krásy v starověké literatuře z oblasti Středomoří a její interpretací v současných filmových adaptacích. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř částí. První část se věnuje pohledu na estetický ideál krásy, sloužící jako teoretické východisko pro celou diplomovou práci. V druhé části se věnuje výskytu ideálu mužské krásy v antické literatuře a popisu jejích hlavních znaků. Třetí část rozebírá interpretaci ideálu mužské krásy ve filmových adaptacích vybraných literárních děl a ve čtvrté části jsou porovnány znaky a vlastnosti stanovené v předchozích částech právě ve filmových adaptacích oproti jejich předlohám. Na konkrétních příkladech jsou poté dokládány spojitosti a zároveň odlišnosti. Práce tedy nabízí explikaci estetického ideálu, analýzu antických literárních děl a jejich filmových adaptací a také komparaci prvků ideálu krásy zjištěných v obou typech ztvárnění.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis Antic ideal of male beauty in film adaptations deals with the comparison of male beauty ideal in the ancient literature originating in the Mediterranean region and its interpretation in contemporary movie adaptations. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part pays attention to the perspective of esthetical ideal of beauty, which serves as a theoretical basis for the bachelor thesis. The second part pays attention to the presence of the male beauty ideals in the ancient literature and description of the main features of male beauty. The third part analyzes the interpretation of the beauty ideal in the film adaptations of the selected literary works and in the fourth part the thesis compares the features and character traits, which were described in the preceding parts, between literature and film adaptations. By giving concrete examples it shows similarities and differences. This work offers explanation of terms of the esthetical ideal, analysis of literature and film works and following comparison of both ancient literature and its film adaptations.
