Abstract:

This thesis will analyze the position and some of the works of women of the Beat Generation. The thesis is divided into nine chapters. The first chapter will present the historical and social background of the analysed generation. The key historical events, social changes and the position of women will be outlined. In the second chapter will be introduced the ideas, ideals, attitudes, poses of the Beat Generation. The third chapter will briefly mention some of the predecessor of the Beat women. Chapter four, five, six, and seven and will analyse chosen works of women Beat writers, namely Joyce Johnson? Come and Join the Dance, Hettie Jones? memoir How I became Hettie Jones, Diane DiPrima?s semi autobiographical Memoirs of a Beatnik, and the collection of poetry and essays Fast Speaking Woman written by Anne Waldman. The selection has been chosen in order to show on one side the variety and diversity of creative expressions of women of the Beat Generation, and on the other side the connecting links between the discussed women and their works. The last chapter of this thesis will mention other women writers of the Beat Generation and will briefly summarize their contribution to the literary world. The aim of the thesis is to show the variety of women of the Beat Generation and to analyze works of some of them and demonstrate their often underestimated but valuable contribution to the literary tradition.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá analýzou vybraných autorek a jejich děl a pozicí žen v padesátých letech minulého století čili tak zvané beatové generaci. Teze jsou rozděleny do osmi kapitol. První kapitola uvádí historické a společenské pozadí rozebírané generace. Nastíněny jsou klíčové historické události, společenské změny a pozice žen v daném období. V druhé kapitole budou představeny idey, ideály, postoje a pózy Beatnické generace. Třetí kapitola zmiňuje takzvané předchůdkyně bítnic. Čtvrtá, pátá, šestá a sedmá kapitola budou věnovány vybraným dílům bítnic, jmenovitě knize Joyce Johnsonové nazvané Come and Join the Dance, pamětem Hettie Jones How I became Hettie Jones, částečně autobiografickému dílu Diany DiPrimy Memoirs of a Beatnik, a sbírce basní a esejů Fast Speaking Woman napsané autorkou Anne Waldman. Na knihách, které byly vybrány, bude poukázáno na pestrost a rozmanitost kreativních počinů bítnic a dále také, jak se jejich díla a osudy propojovaly. Poslední kapitovala této práce stručně zmíní další bítnice a jejich přínos do literárního světa. Cílem této práce je analýzou vybraných textů ukázat různorodost a často podceňované obohacení literární tradice ženami bítnické generace.
