Computers use by pre-school children: its relationship with parenting style and parental attitude

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zjistit, jaké proměnné mohou souviset s používáním počítače u dětí předškolního věku. Byla ověřována souvislost frekvence používání počítače s některými demografickými proměnnými. Ověřována byla také souvislost postoje rodičů k používání počítače předškolními dětmi s frekvencí používání počítače obecně a k hraní výchovných her. Dále jsme ověřovali souvislost míry výchovných stylů s frekvencí používání počítače a pravidly používání počítače u dětí předškolního věku. Výzkum proběhl na internetu a zúčastnilo se ho 355 rodičů dětí předškolního věku. Metodou byl dotazník, který se skládal z otázek zjišťující demografické údaje a používání počítačů, postoj rodičů, z upravené verze Parental Authority Questionnaire a The Parenting Scale. K analýze dat byla použita ANOVA a chí-kvadrát. Zjistili jsme, že frekvence používání počítače souvisí s pořadím narození, věkem a pohlavím dítěte, s mírou autoritářské výchovy rodičů a postojem rodičů k používání počítače předškolními dětmi. Postoj rodičů také pozitivně souvisí s používáním počítače k výchovným účelům. Dále jsme objevili souvislost existence pravidel omezující činnost na počítači s mírou autoritářské, autoritativní výchovy a nedůslednosti rodičů. S pravidly omezující čas na počítači souvisí míra autoritářské výchovy a nedůslednosti rodičů a s mírou trvání na těchto pravidlech souvisí míra autoritativní výchovy a nedůslednosti rodičů. Rodiče téma používání počítačů předškolními dětmi zajímá. Je třeba další zkoumání problematiky.

Abstract:

The aim of my bachelor thesis is to determine variables which can relate to computer use by pre-school children. Relationship between frequency of computer usage and some demographic variables was verified. Also the relationship of parents‘ attitude to playing educational games and generally using computer was verified. We also axamined rate of the parenting styles with the frequency of computer using and rules of it. Research was organised as internet research and 355 parents of pre-schoolers participated. As research method we used questionnaire, which consisted of questions about demographic data and computer usage and parents‘ attitude, prepared version of Parental Authority Questionnaire and The Parenting Scale. ANOVA and chi-square were used for analysis. We discovered that frequency of computer usage relates to as age, gender, birth order, with rate of authoritarian parenting style and parents‘ attitude. Parents‘ attitude also relates to computer usage to play educational games. Also relation between existence of rules of computer usage and rate of authoritarian parenting style, authoritative parenting style and their laxness. With rules of time restrictions cohere authoritarian parenting style and parental laxness. With degree of insisting on rules cohere rate of the authoritative parenting style and parental laxness. Parents are interested in topic of computer usage by pre-school children. Further examination of this issue is needed.
