Development and direction of publishing activities of Slovak museums from the second half of the 19th to the first half of the 20th century.

Abstract:

The master´s thesis deals with the evaluation of the development and direction of publishing activities of Slovak museums from the second half of the 19th to the first half of the 20th century. This period represented key period in terms of development of Slovak museology, which was reflected by creating of the first significant collections and museum institutions on the basis of museum associations and societies. Museum institutions tried to approach their collections to professional and lay public through publishing activities. These activities also represented important form of communication of museum in relation to society. Science activity of Slovak museums to the first half of 20th century is still not well-known area of museum activities, therefore the aim of master´s thesis will be to partially fill these empty places in Slovak historiography.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práca sa zaoberá hodnotením vývoja a smerovania publikačnej a edičnej činnosti slovenských múzeí v období od druhej polovice 19. do polovice 20. storočia. Vymedzený časový úsek je z hľadiska vývoja slovenského múzejníctva kľúčové obdobie, ktoré sa prejavilo vytváraním prvých významnejších zbierok a múzejných inštitúcií na báze múzejných spolkov a spoločností. Múzejné inštitúcie sa prostredníctvom edičnej činnosti snažili priblížiť svoje zbierky odbornej, či laickej verejnosti. Publikačné aktivity tiež predstavovali významnú formu komunikácie múzea vo vzťahu k verejnosti. Vedecká činnosť v slovenských múzeách do pol. 20. storočia doposiaľ predstavuje nie príliš známu oblasť múzejných aktivít, preto cieľom diplomovej práce bude snaha aspoň sčasti zaplniť tieto prázdne miesta slovenskej historiografie.
