Killing a child Crime and its punishment described upon the examples from Jihlava region at the beginning of the 19th century

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá problémem infanticidia a proměnami ve způsobu vnímání a také trestání tohoto činu od období raného novověku po počátek 19. století. Práce dále věnuje pozornost konkrétním případům, které se odehrály v Jihlavském kraji v letech 1796-1820. Cílem této práce je mimo jiné zjistit, z jakého prostředí pocházely obviněné ženy a co je vůbec k jejich činu vedlo. Umožňuje tak pohled do dějin všedního dne na příkladu života žen ze sociálně slabších vrstev a zároveň na vývoj právních dějin.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the problem of infanticide and with changes of its perception and punishment from the early modern period until the beginning of the 19th century. Further, the thesis focuses on particular cases which took place in the Jihlava region from 1796-1820. The objective of this thesis is, among others, to find out what social background the accused women came from and what lead them to commit their act. It enables a view of everyday history through examples of women from socially weaker classes and, at the same time, gives an insight into the evolution of legal history.
