Draft horse in agriculture: Advantages and disadvantages for low-carbon agriculture

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o problematice využití pracovního koně v zemědělství. Zkoumá postoje zemědělců k jednotlivým probíraným problémům, porovnává je mezi sebou a zasazuje do celkového kontextu. Pochopení provázanosti jednotlivých aspektů jejich každodenního života je nutné pro jeho porozumění. Na základě analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů je možné nastínit život lidí podnikajících tímto typem hospodaření. Analýza ukazuje, že zemědělci–kočí musí každý den balancovat krátkodobé ale i dlouhodobé cíle přizpůsobené práci s koňmi. Studie také poukazuje na nekončící boj alternativního zemědělství s konvenčním.

Abstract:

This thesis discusses the issue of the use of the work horse in agriculture. It examines the attitudes of farmers towards the individual problems discussed, compares them with each other and places them in the overall context. Understanding the interconnectedness of individual aspects of their daily life is necessary for its understanding. Based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews, it is possible to outline the life of people engaged in this type of business. The analysis shows that farmers - coachmen must balance short-term and long-term goals adapted to work with horses every day. The study also points to the never-ending battle between alternative agriculture and conventional agriculture.
